Annette is a Consultant Clinical Biochemist at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Cardiff, UK. She has over 30 years experience in Laboratory Medicine, 20 years of which has been in the quality of diagnostics as Director of Weqas.  Weqas is an ISO 17043 accredited External Quality Assurance Provider and a JCTML and  ISO 15195 Accredited Reference measurement Laboratory. She is also the Head of Service for the Point of Care testing (PoCT) Department at Cardiff and Vale UHB and is chair of  the “All Wales” POCT Co-ordinators Group.  She provides advice to Welsh Government on all aspects of PoCT and represents the POCT service in her role as board member of the Wales POCT connectivity Project (WPOCT).

She is a past Executive Board member of European Committee for External Quality Assurance Programmes in Laboratory Medicine (EQALM), chairs the Association for Clinical Biochemistry (ACB) National Audit Committee in the UK, chairs the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) Committee on Analytical Quality and is a member of the European Federation in Laboratory Medicine  Working Group on Performance Specifications for EQAS, a member of the ACB Scientific Committee,  a member of the Royal College of Pathologists Scientific Advisory Committee on Clinical Biochemistry and is an active member of the Antimicrobial resistance implementation group in Wales where she chairs 2 Task and Finish groups.
